Abbot Hall Art Gallery is FREE for children up to the age of 16.
There are fun daily activities for families including new trails and learning spaces for 2017, as well a lively programme of events for all the family. We also have a children’s menu in The Bakestone café and baby changing facilities.
1. NEW: The Abbot Hall Art Gallery Trail.
Explore the galleries with the Abbot Hall trail and look out for cartoon illustrations of The Great Picture dog. The trail will help to bring the art to life but our pooch needs a name! Post your suggestions on facebook with a picture of your favourite dog label @AbbotHall. The winner will recieve £25 of art supplies; to be announced on 1st September.
2. Children’s Activity Trail
Pick up a FREE activity trail sheet on arrival, or download one here.
3. NEW: Art Smocks
Children can put on a FREE art smock on arrival. The pockets are filled will activities and things to do as you explore.
4. The Art Studio
Located off the galleries, the Art Studio is free to use and filled with art supplies for families to get creative.
5. GIF Gallery
Interact with a touch screen station to see the moving gif videos of the artwork, created by children during our events and school visits.
6. Saturday Art Club.
Join us on the first Saturday of every month and bring art to life. More here.
7. Art Camp
A week of hand’s on activities exploring art and history for 8 – 14 year olds. More here.
8. Exhibition Activities
We often have interactive activities for families inspired by the current exhibition, in addition to the daily activities. See Exhibitions to find out what’s on.
9. Abbot Hall Park.
The gallery is just a stone throw from the leafy Abbot Hall Park where kids can let off steam in the play area and seating is available for picnics.
There are also plenty of things to see and do at Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry, just across the courtyard. Entrance for under 16's and students is also FREE.
