Women of the Royal Academy - RA250

NEW! Women of the Royal Academy - RA250

Friday 11 May - Saturday 28 July 2018

Abbot Hall Art Gallery joins the celebrations of the Royal Academy’s 250th anniversary by staging two displays featuring work by Royal Academicians from Abbot Hall’s own collection.

The second show; Women of the Royal Academy is dedicated to female Royal Academicians in our collection, and celebrates a century since the Representation of the People Act 1918, which allowed women to vote for the first time in Britain. Highlighting gender discrimination in the art world, the display includes works by Mary Fedden, Angelica Kauffman, Paula Rego, Sheila Fell and Alison Wilding.

This project, with Art Fund support, forms part of RA250 UK: Exhibitions and events around the UK to celebrate 250 years of the Royal Academy of Arts (roy.ac/RA250UK).

From 1 March - 9 June, the first display traces the History of the Royal Academy and features works by JWM Turner, LS Lowry, John Nash, Victor Passmore and David Hockney.
