Around the Lakes with Edward Lear

Display: 4 July - 22 December 2012

Abbot Hall has an exceptional collection of late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century English watercolours, including works by the great Victorian eccentric, artist and nonsense poet, Edward Lear (1812-88). This display, which marks the bicentenary of Lear’s birth, includes four watercolours and drawings by him and beautiful works by the itinerant artists whose explorations of the picturesque Lakeland scenery inspired Lear when he toured Cumberland in 1836.
