Andy Goldsworthy: Photographic Works
8 February - 18 March 2001
An exhibition of photographs by this popular artist who creates beautiful, ephemeral works in the landscape. Working with natural materials Goldsworthy arranges stones, leaves, slate, ice or snow in a specifically chosen site. These transient works are then photographed so that the outdoor experience can then be brought inside.
By doing so Goldsworthy feels that some of the energy of the original piece is lost, yet there is still enough meaning left. Not only do such works explore his relationship between indoor and outdoor, but they also emphasise the physical part of his making process.
