I. History of The Royal Academy: Who’s In and Who’s Out?

Thursday 19 April 2018, 6.00pm

Marking 250 years of the Royal Academy of Arts, discover its origins and find why Kendal’s George Romney refused to join this prestigious club.

We bring together art by Academicians including JMW Turner, LS Lowry, Angelica Kauffman, John Nash, Victor Pasmore and David Hockney. Discover how they became members and who was omitted. Guest Curator Nick Rogers explores Abbot Hall's Academicians while examining how RA membership reflects trends in society. The talk will take place in the period Dining Room at Abbot Hall.

This talk is the first in a two-part series celebrating the Royal Academy's 250th anniversary alongside our RA250 displays.
