The Lakeland Arts Trust (reg. charity No. 526980) is the charitable trust which runs Abbot Hall.

Its aim is to give inspiration and enjoyment through direct contact with the work of artists and craftsmen. It also believes that understanding and knowledge of art and artists is likely to add to and enhance an audience's level of enjoyment. The Trust therefore has education at its core and this is seen as its primary function.

As a registered charity, Abbot Hall relies heavily on charitable donations and sponsorship which includes many private individuals as well as charitable trusts and commercial companies.
