1) Look closely, what do you think this is a picture of?
b) Faces

If you turn the picture sideways, you can see the shapes are really two faces from funny angles! But.... if you thought this was a landscape you were half right, the faces have been arranged to look like an imaginary landscape, the picture is called "Horizon."

2) Do you think this picture is
b) A mixture of what he saw and ideas from his imagination

Although the picture looks nearly abstract, the faces never fully loose their identity.

3) have a look at the colour wheel, do you think the colours in the picture are warm or cold?
Warm

4) Do you think Tony Bevan has chosen these colours to describe

6) What materials do you think the artist has used to create this picture?
a) Paint and charcoal
It is very difficult to see the fascinating texture or to understand the size of this picture on a computer screen. How big do you think it is? Why not visit Abbot Hall to find out?

Activities....
Using a digital camera take pictures of parts of the body e.g. heads, feet and hands from unusual angles, and make drawings of them using thick paint or charcoal.

Use features from a face to create a landscape eg. mountains made of noses, clouds made of eyelashes etc.
