Lets
learn more about it...

The
four dancing children are brother and sisters. Anne on the right
hand side is their step-sister. Their father, the 2nd Earl of Gower
asked for the picture to be painted in 1776. Do you think their
father would have been pleased with the painting?
Many
children died young, so a big family was something to be proud of.
The children have been painted dancing, with bright, fresh complexions,
to show that they were happy and healthy.
The
children are wearing classical costume instead of their own clothes.
Anne looks like she is a classical sculpture carved out of marble.
This makes the children look like little Gods and Goddesses and
more important than ordinary children. It also implies that they,
and George Romney know about Classical art.
There
is one boy in the picture. He is the one wearing a white dress with
a pink sash and long blonde hair! This is Granville.
