10 February - 12 March 2000
An intensely powerful series of images focusing on human folly and cruelty by Francisco Goya (1746-1828). One of Spain's greatest artists, Goya's portraits are memorable for their unsparing realism revealing all of the flaws of his subjects. During his lifetime Spain was racked with tyranny and violence and in this his last great series of etchings Goya shows us a land wrecked by war with scenes of witchcraft, flying men and monstrously formed creatures.
