Coffee Shop Exhibition: Ipaggery - The Art of Photography

11 January - 8 May 2010

Abbot Hall Coffee Shop starts the year with an exhibition by The Independent Photographers Art Group (IPAg).

The exhibition will showcase the work of each member of the Group and illustrates the diverse range of approaches to photography practised within the Group. It will run, with changes of images, until May.

The Independent Photographers Art Group consists of eight photographers based in the South Lakes area with a common interest in artistic, creative photography. IPAg photographers regard photography as an independent art form and this is reflected in the work produced.

The photographs display a variety of technical approaches and styles. There will be examples of landscapes, family portraits, still life and other poetic responses to the urban and natural environment. What they all have in common is a personal and subjective photographic style. The exhibition will include landscapes by Graham Whitwham and Jeremy Hall celebrating the traditions of black and white fine printing, landscape-influenced abstracts by Andrew Leavett and colour work by Rob Sara and Dougie Cunningham. While Tony Riley’s silent-witness urban landscapes explore surfaces and textures. Matthew Mawson’s constructions of family photographs are layered with memory and Michael Poulter explores the age of steam and iron and its enduring legacy.
