9.45am – 4.00pm
Back by popular demand, the award-winning Art Camp returns this summer. Children will be inspired by art, museum collections and work with a local illustrator and professional storyteller to unleash their inner artist!
We start the week at Abbot Hall, Kendal to meet Lady Anne Clifford and David Hockney and make comic-strips of our life stories.
Tuesday we will immerse ourselves in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons and work with an illustrator to create drawings that will become part of a museum display.
Mid-week we travel to Blackwell the Arts & Crafts House where a storyteller will take us on an adventure as we experience the real Swallow and Amazon boats from the 2016 award-winning film. We'll then create and illustrate our own summer adventure in stop-motion animation later in the week.
On Thursday children will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Windermere Jetty Museum building site, meet a boatbuilder and be inspired by the lake and architecture of the new museum.
Friday we get arty in the Painting Pop exhibition at Abbot Hall Art Gallery before staging the annual Art Camp Exhibition for friends and family to enjoy from 3pm.
Daily drop-off and pick-up at Abbot Hall; transport to other venues provided by Lakeland Arts. Children will be accompanied by a member of staff at all times.
The 2016 Art Camp won the Curious Minds Arts Award: Big Impact Award in April 2017.
