ARTS & CRAFTS AND 20th CENTURY STUDIO POTTERY

Ceramics by Bernard Leach and Lucie Rie

Blackwell the Arts & Crafts House

This is a wide ranging collection which includes furniture by Simpsons of Kendal, Stanley Davies and other makers, including some archive material. There is also metalwork, pottery, jewellery and objects from the Keswick School of Industrial Art, as well as textiles and fabrics from the Langdale Linen Industry and by Annie Garnett, displayed in the Museum of Lakeland Life at Abbot Hall. From further afield, there is an important group of work by Prima Vera. In addition, the collection has some important pieces of studio pottery by makers including Bernard Leach, Hans Coper and Lucie Rie. Many of these items are currently shown in the more appropriate setting of Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts House, which is only ten miles away from Abbot Hall at Bowness-on-Windermere.
